Due to the pandemic scenario in which the country and the world finded themselves, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences decided to hold the Magna 2020 Meeting in a virtual way, with the theme “The world post COVID-19”.
The objective of the online event was to debate, with a scientific basis, the fight against the pandemic and the challenges of the post-pandemic future, related to health, the economy, social organization and the environment.
The moment was necessary for the scientific community to make itself heard and to bring to the population quality information, essential to face this pandemic and the economic and social recovery of Brazil and the world.

SEPTEMBER 29th | AMAZON: CHALLENGES FOR THE 21st CENTURY
BAS invited the president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, Jeffrey Sachs, to the Magna Conference on Sep, 29th. He is professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and a member of the United Nations Broadband Commission for Digital Development.
Also invited to the meeting were former Ecuadorian minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, the president of the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change and Academic Carlos Nobre, and the Venezuelan indigenous leader José Gregório Mirabal.
The session was entitled AMAZÔNIA: CHALLENGES FOR THE 21st CENTURY, and was moderated by the vice president of ABC for the North Region, Adalberto Val.
