ABC members are divided into the following categories:

Full Members: Scientists living in Brazil for more than 10 (ten) years, with outstanding scientific performance.

Associate Members: This category was abolished in the 1999 statutory reform, as there was no reason to maintain two lifelong categories for scientists living in Brazil (Full Members and Associate Members) with the same selection criterion: scientific excellence. Remaining Associate Members retain the rights and obligations in effect at the time of their election and may be elected as Full Members.

Corresponding Members: Scientists of recognized scientific merit, living abroad for more than 10 (ten) years, who have made significant contributions to the development of science in Brazil.

Affiliate Members: Young researchers of excellence, up to 40 years of age, who are members of the ABC for a non-renewable five-year term. Full members elect up to five affiliate members per year for each ABC regional organization. Learn more about this category here.

Collaborating Members: individuals who have provided significant services to the ABC or to national scientific development.

Institutional Members: organizations interested in the development of science and technology, willing to contribute financially to the maintenance of ABC activities and the implementation of initiatives of mutual interest.
