Biography

Nicole M. Le Douarin was born on August 20, 1930 in Lorient, France. Daughter of Marthe Le Queffellec and Urbain Chauvac, she is married to Jean David and has two children.
She was an associate Professor (1954/1960), a researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique CNRS (1960/1965), Maître de Conférences at the Faculté des Sciences de Clermont-Ferrand (1965/1966) and at the Faculté des Sciences de Nantes (1966/1971), full Professor of a Cathedra at the University of Nantes (1971/1975) and research Director of the CNRS (1976/1988). She is the director of the Embryology Institute of CNRS and of the Collège de France since November, 1975, Professor at the Collège de France since November, 1988 and was elected Perpetual Secretary of the Académie des Sciences in January of 2001.
She is a member of various prestigious scientific institutions, received a number of awards and distinctions and did a great number of distinguished lectures.
