ABC and SBPC

The two biggest national entities representative of the scientific community, the Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC) and the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC) – have been working together towards ST&I in Brazil.

Campaign for the Release of researches on Stem Cells
With leadership, the two entities promoted actions at the National Congress and at the Judiciary, obtaining an expressive victory in 2008, with the approval by the Supreme Court of the definite liberty of research in the country.

Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda for Brazil
In 2010, the presidents of ABC and of SBPC, Jacob Palis  and Marco Antônio Raupp, respectively, presented to the President of the Republic, a document with proposals for the next administration.

Commitment Letter for Education
In the month of August 2010, a document was released, by 26 organization of the civil society and entities of the educational sector, with seven prioritary challenges for the next government, with the aim of improving the quality of education in Brazil. One of the leaders of the process was the representative from SBPC and ABC, Isaac Roitman . Read the full document.

ABC’s Participation in the 62nd Annual Meeting of SBPC
The meeting which occurred in July 2010 in Rio Grande do Norte, counted with the significant participation of members of ABC. For the first time ABC occupied a stand at the Expotec, where several booklets about the actions of the Academy were distributed and where the Academy met with several visitors interested in getting to know the entity. The Forest Code and Science: Contributions for the Dialogue
ABC and SBPC instituted a Work Group to develop a technical report, released in April of 2011, with counter proposals to the document of modifications of the Forest Code proposed to the Congress in 2010, for believing that its content compromise the future of the country since it goes against the world tendency of striving for a sustainable model of development.

ABC’s Participation in the 63rdAnnual Meeting of SBPC
The meeting which occurred in July 2010 in Goiás, counted with the significant participation of members of ABC. For the second time ABC occupied a stand at the Expotec, where the Academy met with several visitors interested in getting to know the entity. Several booklets about the actions of the Academy were distributed, and there were free computers to navigation in our institutional site (www.abc.org.br/eng) and ProfiCiência, a new site dedicated to young brazilian students, to present them the scientific careers and to motivate them to that professions.
