Uma iniciativa da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) e da Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC),  a série de vídeos Conhecer para Entender é coordenada pela Acadêmica  Debora Foguel. O comitê de avaliação conta com a vice-presidente da ABC Helena B. Nader, o diretor da ABC João Batista Calixto, o vice-presidente Regional da ABC para MG&CO Mauro Teixeira e a diretora da SBPC Lucile Winter.

A equipe de produção dos vídeos é liderada pela professora associada do Instituto de Bioquímica Médica Leopoldo de Meis (IBqM) da UFRJ Lucia Bianconi, que contou, nesse vídeo, com a colaboração do mestrando em matemática da Universidade de Brasília (UnB) Mateus Malta Fleury. Os vídeos são baseados em análises de artigos recentes sobre coronavírus, publicados em revista destacadas, feitas por jovens pesquisadores de excelência de todo o Brasil.

Nesta edição, o professor associado do Instituto de Biofísica Carlos Chagas Filho da UFRJ Emiliano Medei explica “Por que pessoas com doença cardíaca podem ter maiores complicações com o coronavírus”. Ele foi membro afiliado da ABC no período 2008-2012.
